Social Media and Psychology
My background is in Psychology and linking the two worlds is very easy. Psychology is all about human behavior and how we interact with one another which is exactly what social media allows us to do.
The first article goes through general questions about social media and how it effects our relationships. I know we have all explored a lot with communication online and what I have found form our communities is that online interaction can be personal and in depth and have that experience as if you are getting to know someone in person. It allows for that more convenient interaction. I think the articles gives some simple basic answers to the questions people pose about social media.
The next article is from Psychology Today and it goes into more depth of the experience using social media and how that translates to interaction. Something they address that I think is a major issue is social cues. I know that when I read a text there are about 100 ways it can be interpreted. They suggest that punctuation and emoticons can mimic some the social and facial expression cues that are missing when interacting through social media, but so you really get the full picture?
What do you think?
